Monroe Laborde, MD, MS, the prestigious Newman Community Service Award in recognition of his exceptional dedication to orthopedic care and education, particularly in the treatment of diabetic foot and ankle conditions.

Dr. Laborde, a respected orthopedic surgeon at Orthopaedic Associates of New Orleans (OANO) and educator, has spent his career advancing the care of patients with diabetes-related foot and ankle conditions. This recognition is truly a reflection of the incredible colleagues and mentors who have shaped my journey.”

The Newman Community Service Award is presented annually by LOA to a physician who demonstrates exemplary service to the community and a commitment to advancing orthopedic care in Louisiana and beyond.

Dr. Laborde attended Tulane University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic training at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He taught orthopedic surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical School and has been a key figure in advancing orthopedic education ever since. In 1981, he returned to New Orleans, where he has practiced general orthopedics at OANO ever since. He also serves as a clinical assistant professor at LSU Health Sciences Center.

“Dr. Laborde’s contributions to orthopedic medicine are nothing short of extraordinary,” said Douglas Lurie, MD, a senior orthopedic surgeon at OANO. “His groundbreaking work in diabetic foot care is saving lives, and his dedication to education and mentorship has left an indelible mark on our profession. We at OANO are incredibly proud to see him receive this well-deserved recognition.”
